Garthwick Architectural Walking Tour

Off-the-Beaten Path Inner SE Portland

Garthwick? Where is that?…you might ask. Located just south of Sellwood and north of the Waverly Country Club, this hidden residential neighborhood is a great “outdoor lab.” It houses the most popular residential styles of the early 20th century.

Quiet and tree-lined with a meandering street grid, this upper middle-class enclave has a socio-economic homogeneity that contrasts with its architectural variety.

Tudor Revival residences predominate, but there are also several early Ranch Style homes and a stunning example of an International Style influenced contemporary dwelling.

Join me in an exploration of this often over-looked, off-the-beaten path part of inner SE Portland.
