Walking Tour of Historic Downtown Astoria

November 27, 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Downtown Astoria developed as a major seaport based on the wealth of natural resources; particularly lumber and salmon, that provided the base industries for the city for decades. The Great Fire of 1922 destroyed most of the commercial buildings in the core commercial center of the city. Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, downtown was rebuilt in less than two years. Today, the 1920s era Early Modern architecture dominates the downtown streetscape. We’ll look at some of the most significant post-fire buildings and some of the most notable survivors.

Easy point to point walk of about a dozen blocks on level urban terrain.

Meet at the entrance to the Flavel Carriage House at 714 Exchange Street
which is operated as a museum by the Clatsop County Historical Society.

Suggested donation for this narrated architectural walking tour is $10
